Phlogiston is differentiated from other types of flame by its primary fuel source, Anima, allowing it to burn underwater or even inside vacuums,. As a result, extended Phlogiston expulsion can cause a decrease in Anima density by burning gaps in it. This is also what prevents it from burning forever, as Phlogiston outside of a Chimera’s body is fleeting, burning its fuel faster than it can spread. The colour of Phlogiston is not indicative of its temperature, burning the same.
Phlogiston scars are completely untreatable and excruciatingly painful. Not even full body regeneration can heal these wounds, as a consequence of the Anima inside the scarred tissue and its ability to absorb Anima having been completely incinerated. Devil tissue is the exception to this, as due to it being composed entirely of Anima, it chokes the Phlogiston out instead of letting it burn, and the resulting wounds are temporary, healing themselves back after a short while.
